The Center has given over 53 percent scholarships to the girl students under the Post-matric Scholarship Scheme of the Minority Affairs Ministry during the current Financial Year. As per the latest data of the Ministry over 5 lakhs students have been awarded Post-matric scholarships out of which around 3 lakhs are girls.

According to an official release, for the award of these scholarships the Ministry has sanctioned over 267 crore rupees in the current Financial Year.
The scholarship scheme is provided to the students from class eleventh up to Ph.D. belonging to the Minority communities.

AIR correspondent reports that the scheme was launched in the year 2007-08 and a cumulative total of over 16 lakhs scholarships have been awarded till the January this year.
