India sought the participation of Swiss companies in the infrastructure development projects involving an investment of around one trillion US dollars during 12th five year plan. The development of the roads sector alone is expected to attract investments worth 70 billion US dollars in India. The suggestion was made by the Union Road, Transport and Highways Minister, Dr C P Joshi, during his meeting with a Swiss delegation recently. The Minister informed the delegation that India is the world's second longest road network of over 47 lakh kilometres of which over 76 thousand kilometres is national highways. He said, New Delhi is looking for modern technology and technical expertise in construction, operations and development of highways.AIR correspondent reports that a Swiss consultancy company is working as Supervision Consultant in joint venture with Indian Consultants for 12 road packages. Of these, seven road packages have been completed and rest are under implementation.
