Defending World Champion Viswanathan Anand meets Boris Gelfand of Israel tonight in the Fide World Chess Championship match 2012 at the Tretyakov State Gallery in Moscow. Anand won his first World Chess title defeating Alexei Shirov of Spain in the final in Teheran in 2000. The Indian then successfully defended the title in the round-robin tournament in Mexico in 2007. Again in an exceptional performance in Bonn against Vladimir Kramnik of Russia, in 2008, Anand won in a twelve-game match to prove that he was the undisputed world champion. Another gruelling title in Sofia in 2010 against Veselin Topalav of Bulgaria confirmed that the world champion had no challenge left.Four-time world champion Anand has nothing more to achieve while Boris Gelfand has not even got any close to his first world title. The Indian has almost won everything in chess at the age of 42. As per the playing conditions in the championship match, the first player to score six and a half points in the regular 12 games will be the winner. If the scores are equal, four rapid games of 25 minutes will be played. If still tied, there will be blitz games and the sudden death to decide the winner.
