The Yonex Indian Open badminton championship will begin in New Delhi on Tuesday. Promising Indian shuttler Guru Sai Datt and Saurav Verma were promoted to the main draw of the championship on Tuesday after 12 players withdrew from the men's singles event. Four other Indians – Sumit Reddy, Rohit Yadav, Nand Gopal Srikanth, K Srikant – were promoted from reserve to qualifiers of the men's singles. Top Indians Chetan Anand and Arvid Bhat were among the 12 players who had withdrawn from the men's singles. In women's singles, Mohita Sachdeva and Tripti Murkunde were also promoted from reserve to qualifiers after withdrawal of players. In men's doubles, the Indian pairs of B Sumit Reddy and T Heman Nagendra Babu and Beneth Anthony and P H Suraj were promoted from the qualifiers to the main draw. The mixed doubles also saw Indian players T Babu and P Jyotsna and Manu Atri and N Sikki Reddy being promoted from the qualifiers to the main draw.
