In the World Women Team Chess Championship at Mardin in Turkey, Grandmaster D Harika registered the only win for her side in the seventh round as India edged past Greece 2.5 – 1.5 to stay in the medal contention. Harika defeated top ranked Marina Makropoulou while Koneru Humpy, Tania Sachdev and Padmini Rout settled for draws.China, which defeated Georgia 3-1, remained at the top with 14 points from seven matches. While China is now sure of a Gold medal, the fight now remains for the silver and bronze medal, for which India remains a strong contender.India hold the sole second spot on 11 match points and currently enjoy a full-point lead over Russia.
