West Bengal is leading the medal tally with five gold medals and one bronze on the first day of the Weightlifting competition of the 7th National Youth (Boys & Girls) underway at the Arunachal Pradesh capital Itanagar.Manipur is in second position with two gold, three silver and two bronze while Andhra Pradesh is in third with two gold and one bronze. Host Arunachal has won three silver medals and one bronze medal while Chhattisgarh has also won three silver medals.The star performer of the day was Chandrika Tarafdar of West Bengal who won 3 Gold medals in the 44 kg girls by lifting 50 kg in Snatch, 65 kg in Clean & Jerk and 115 kg in Total.In the 50 kg boys event, Jimjang Deru of Arunachal Pradesh pocketed 3 Silver medals by lifting 73 kg in Snatch, 95 kg in Clean & Jerk and 168 kg in Total.The games was inaugurated by Arunachal Chief Minister Nabam Tuki at the Nyikum Niya Hall in Nirjuli on Tuesday evening.
