Union Sports Minister Ajay Makan on Wednesday said that Jawahar Lal Nehru, JLN stadium in New Delhi, will be developed as the new football hub in the country. Talking to reporters, Mr. Makan said that his Ministry has given its approval for hosting the South Asian Football Federation Championships scheduled in December at the JLN stadium to encourage football culture in the national capital.An agreement in this regard was signed between All India Football Federation, AIFF and Sports Authority of India, SAI in the presence of the Sports Minister today. This agreement will enable them to host international and domestic tournaments at the JLN stadium. The Sports Minister said that the agreement will improve the ranking of the game which has slipped considerably in last few years due to lack of good sporting infrastructure. AIR correspondent reports that AIFF will also re-lay the turf on the main pitch at JLN Stadium at its own cost.
