In the World Boxing Championships, now under way at Baku in Azerbaijan, three Indian boxers – Laishram Devendro, Jai Bhagwan and Manpreet Singh – entered the pre-quarterfinals today. Devendro defeated Mexican Joselito Velazquez Altamirano 40-19 in the 49 kg category and Jai Bhagwan overcame Czech Miroslav Serban in the 60 kg division with a 14-6 scoreline. In the 91 kilogram heavy weight category, Manpreet Singh defeated Dzhakon Qurbanov of Tajikistan 17-9. Another Indian, Akhil Kumar, is slated to meet John Joe Nevin of Ireland in the 56 kilogram bantamweight category on Monday.
