The Commerce Secretary Mr Rahul Khullar will begin his two day talks with his Pakistani counterpart Zafar Mehmood in New Delhi tomorrow. Mr Mehmood, who is already in Delhi, told reporters on his arrival that the relations between the two countries can not normalise without invoking the Most Favoured Nation, MFN status because both the countries are signatory of the World Trade Organisation. He said that the WTO obligates all members to observe the MFN status and India and Pakistan are working on it. The two Commerce Secretaries would examine the progress made since their last meeting in the area of trade and commerce. The two countries have decided to establish a preferential trade agreement that may see tariff reduction in a number of items traded between the two countries.AIR correspondent reports that the two sides have agreed to expand trade in the areas of petroleum products and electricity. In 2010-11, India- Pakistan trade stood at 2.6 billion US Dollars and a target of six billion US Dollars worth of trade has been set for the next three years. Pakistan is expected to prune the negative list of 12000 items soon. This will lead to rapid growth of trade and commerce. With this India will be able to export its textiles, engineering goods, chemicals, raw materials, spices, and other such materials to Pakistan.
