In the Japan Open Badminton, World Number four Indian Saina Nehwal on Friday advanced to the semi-finals of the Women's Singles event in Tokyo. In the Quarters, India's ace shuttler defeated Juan Gu of Singapore 21-17, 21-13. Saina will play eighth seed Juliane Schenk of Germany in the semi-finals.On Thursday, all the Indians players except Saina bowed out of the tournament. Ajay Jayaram and Parupalli Kashyap lost their respective Men's Singles pre-quarterfinal matches, while Jwala Gutta, who was competing in Mixed Doubles with V. Diju, and with Ashwini Ponnappa in Women's Doubles, also could not make it to the last eight.
