Thirty-one-year old Carmelita Jeter of the United States powered home to win the women's 100 meters title at the world athletics championships at Daegu, South Korea, on Monday. Jeter clocked a time of 10.90 seconds. Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown was second for the Silver. Kelly-Ann Baptiste of Trinidad and Tobago pipped defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce by 0.01 seconds for the bronze medal. In the women's 400 metres, Amantle Montsho earned Botswana its first gold medal at the world championships. Montsho raced across the line in a time of 49.56 seconds with American Allyson Felix just three-hundredths of a second behind. Anastasiya Kapachinskaya won the bronze for Russia.In the men's discus throw event, India's Vikas Gowda qualified for the finals.
