In Friday's Group encounters, while holders Australia thrashed New Zealand by seven wickets at Nagpur, co-hosts Bangladesh defeated Ireland by 27 runs at Mirpur. In the Group-A match at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground in Nagpur, Aussie Pacer, Mitchell Jonhson ripped through New Zealand's batting order giving defending champions Australia a comprehensive seven-wicket win. Put in to bat, the Kiwis were all out for 206 in 45.1 overs. Chasing 207 runs for a win, the Kangaroos overhauled the target in just 34 overs courtesy Shane Watson and Brad Haddin's opening partnership of 133 runs. Mitchell Johnson was adjudged man of the match for his 4 wickets. In the Day-Night Group 'B' encounter at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, co-hosts Bangladesh snatched a 27-run victory over a fighting Ireland. Electing to bat, Bangladesh scored a modest 205 with some fabulous batting from opener, Tamim Iqbal. Medium Pacer, Shafiul Islam bagged 4 wickets for Bangladesh as the Irish team subsided for a 178 runs with five overs to spare. Tamim Iqbal was named man of the match. Today, Pakistan will lock horns with Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo in a Day-Night fixture.
