In the 16th Asian Gamesat Guangzhou, India won three Gold, One Silver and three Bronze medals yesterday. With the addition of seven more medals, India's medal haul has climbed to 10 gold, 14 silver and 29 bronze. India have now moved up to the eighth spot in the overall standings. They also equalled the gold tally of the of the 2006 Asian Games held in Doha. With the men's and women's kabaddi teams keeping themselves on course for the coveted gold and star pugilist Vijender Singh and two other boxers eying gold medals, India will be looking for a top-five finish. Hurdlers Joseph Abraham and Ashwini Chidananda provided a huge boost to the country's medal haul with their gold-winning feats; teen sensation Vikas Krishan Yadav added a boxing gold to the kitty. The Silver was bagged by boxer Dinesh Kumar in the 81 kg class.Taking Indian athletics to a new high, Joseph and Ashwini took centre stage by taking the honour in the men's and women's 400 metres hurdles, an unprecedented feat for any country at the Asian Games. The Indian men's hockey team, talented middle distance runner Tintu Luka, and Mausam Khatri in men's 96 kg freestyle wrestling accounted for a bronze each as India added seven more medals to their kitty.However, China maintained their supremacy atop the medals table with a stupendous tally of 181 Gold, 104 Silver and 91 Bronze. South Korea and Japan occupy the second and third positions respectively.
