In Uttar Pradesh 51.24 percent voters exercised franchise in 18 poll bound constituencies till 5 PM today. AIR correspondent from Varanasi reports that voting was by and large in peaceful. Maximum 55 percent voter turnout was reported from Chandauli constituency followed above 54 percent in Maharajganj seat. Kushinagar, Lalganj, Azamgarh, and Robertsganj seats had over 52 percent polling while 51 percent voters exercised their franchise in Gorakhpur and Mirzapur seats.
In the high profile Varanasi seat about 52 percent voters` turnout has been recorded from where BJP leader Narendra Modi and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal are pitted in multi corner contest. Above 50 percent polling has been recorded in Domariyaganj, Deoria, Ghosi, Ballia, Jaunpur and Ghazipur constituencies. Minimum 48 and above has been recorded in Basgaon, Salempur and Machhlishahr seats.
In Naxal hit Chakiya, Duddhi and Robertsganj assembly segments of Robertsganj seat polling was concluded 2 hours earlier at 4 PM.AIR correspondent reports that in comparison to 2009 elections more polling has been recorded in most of the constituencies.
