50th anniversary of AIR, Aizawl, celebrated at Vanapa Hall in the heart of Aizawl city

In Mizoram, the fiftieth anniversary of All India Radio (AIR), Aizawl was celebrated today with much enthusiasm and fervour at Vanapa Hall in the heart of Aizawl city.<br/><br/>Speaking as Chief Guest on the occasion, Chief Minister Pu Lal Thanhawla, said that Radio is the most reliable medium of communication that one can rely upon. <br/><br/>"In the present technological invasion of different forms of social media, All India Radio stands the most reliable and credible source of information ", said the Chief Minister and added that "the vast majority masses solely rely upon Radio for news, education and entertainment ".<br/><br/>Narrating the past when Mizoram was facing 20 years of insurgency, Pu Lal Thanhawla said that "AIR was the only source of information for the people of Mizoram". The reliability and credibility of AIR still stands, and AIR Aizawl is successfully catering the needs of the people by broadcasting news of local, regional, national and international events,the Chief Minister said.<br/><br/>In the celebration that was marked by lively songs and performances, the Mission Venthlang Drama Party have meaningfully showcased a short play on the theme 'Progress and Impact of Radio on Mizo Society'. What has enriched the celebration was the show of a documentary on the theme 'Activities of AIR Aizawl with Archival Flashes', outlining the the 50-year-long journey of AIR Aizawl.<br/><br/>Earlier, Pu D. R. Lalropuia, Directror (E) and Head of Office delivered the welcome address.<br/><br/>The Golden Jubilee celebration was attended by Shri D. N. Basumatari, ADG (P & A) (NEZ & EZ), AIR & DD, Guwahati as Guest of Honour, Shri M. S. Ansari, ADG (E) (NEZ), AIR & DD, Guwahati, Pu C. Lalrosanga, Retd DG (DD), besides many former senior officials of AIR, Aizawl.<br/><br/>The celebration was punctuated by presentation of songs from prominent artists of the state such as Ravi Tamang, Rebecca Saimawii, Lalduhsaki and Andrew Laltlankima. The celebration was telecast live by DDK, Aizawl, and broadcast live by North East Service, AIR, Shillong and FM Zoawi, Aizawl.<br/>All India Radio, Aizawl started functioning from a small makeshift Assam Type Quarter on 31st July, 1966 with only 150 W medium wave transmitter. <br/><br/>Today, All India Radio, Aizawl is equipped with Type (II) R studios and 20 KW solid state medium wave transmitter, 10 KW shsort wave transmitter and 6 KW Digital FM transmitter with well equipped Digital satellite uplink and downlink station for News Terminal of all AIR Network.<br/>The programs of AIR Aizawl are being listened by the Mizo people across Myanmar, Bangladesh and North Eastern states of India.
