In Bihar, police resorted to mild lathi charge at a rally in Gaya today as commotion broke out at the venue shortly before BJP leader Narendra Modi was to address it. The police action to restore order came after the crowd at the rally in Gandhi Maidan, who had gathered for several hours, became restive. They broke down wooden barricades and a section of the crowd barged into the media enclosure. The people at the rally ran helter skelter and flung chappals, as policemen wielded lathis to control the crowd.
Police reinforcements were also rushed in. The rally continued after BJP leaders appealed for peace and calm. This was Mod's second rally in Bihar today after his address at Sasaram, where outgoing Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is the Congress candidate.
