Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced that 50,000 youths will be engaged by the government within next few months in the state. In his address to the people on the eve of the Independence Day, Mr. Abdullah said economic development is an essential component for the well-being of the state and its people and so it could not be ignored. He said during the last 18 months, his Government besides focusing on water, electricity, roads, health and education as the most five important sectors of economic welfare, has laid emphasis on providing solution to the unemployment issue.Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir government has sanctioned 4.8 crore rupees as immediate relief to people whose houses have been damaged in torrential rains in different parts of the state. Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla said this while interacting with officers at Sunderbani in Rajouri district yesterday. He said that of this, two crore rupees each has been sanctioned for Jammu and Kashmir regions, besides 4 lakh rupees each for Leh and Kargil districts. Mr. Bhalla asked the District Development Commissioners(DDCs) to submit a list of flood-affected families in their areas to Divisional Commissioners of Srinagar and Jammu so that compensation could be disbursed among the victims. Later the Minister visited the residence of Kiran Devi of Tandwal village in Rajouri district who was killed in a militant attack on the 11th of this month at Thanamandi and handed over an amount of 1 lakh rupees as ex-gratia to her kin.
