50 percent of Tatkal tickets in 80 trains to cost more

Railways has decided to sell 50 per cent of the Tatkal quota tickets using dynamic fare system. This may lead to increase in Tatkal fares. Senior Railway Ministry official said that first 50 per cent tickets will continue to be booked under the existing scheme and the remaining under the dynamic fare system. The new scheme has already became operational in 80 trains from 1st of this month and is only available for online bookings.

The official said, all zones have been asked to identify five popular trains in their zone. The railways are describing the scheme as a preventive measure to deal with the menace of touts and this will help facilitating needy passengers to get tickets.

Under the scheme, passengers will have to pay normal Tatkal fare for 50 per cent of the total tickets available. But for subsequent 10 per cent tickets, 20 percent more rupees will be charged.
