In West Bengal, peaceful voting is on in 14 assembly seats for sixth and final phase of assembly elections covering parts of West Midnapur, Bankura and Purulia districts. Around 50 per cent polling was recorded in first five hours. The state Chief Electoral Officer Mr. Sunil Gupta told AIR Kolkata correspondent that no major untoward incident has so far been reported from any part of maoist infested areas where polling is on. 14 electronic voting machines have been replaced from various polling booths for technical snag. Unprecedented security arrangements are in place in three maoists infested districts to ensure free and fair polling. Besides state police, 650 company para military forces are on duty in these areas. Over 26 lakh 55 thousand electorate will decide the fortune of 97 candidates. The prominent candidates include Minister Sushanta Ghosh, Rabilal Moitra and leader of moist backed Peoples Committee Mr.Chatradhar Mahato who is contesting the election from jail as an independent candidate.
