The Reserve Bank of India has issued a new series of 50 paisa coins with the rupee symbol and new security features to facilitate easy recognition. The new security features will help in avoiding crude counterfeiting of coins. Giving this information in the Lok Sabha today, Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena affirmed that the 50 paisa coin continues to be legal tender. The Reserve Bank of India had received three complaints about non-acceptance of 50 paisa coins from the general public. He clarified that 50 paisa coins will remain in use.
