5 militants arrested in Assam's Udalgiri district

In Assam, security forces have arrested 5 militants in Udalguri district during last 36 hours.

Inspector General of Police, L R Bishnoi said that a joint team of the army and Assam police apprehended 4 cadres of National Democratic Front of Bodoland ( Sangbijit group ) and one militant of Rabha National Liberation Army from Murabari area.

Mr. Bishnoi said that arrested militants were involved in several extortion and kidnapping cases in Baksa and Udalguri district. Security forces also recovered arms and cash from them.

Meanwhie, a top leader and five other hardcore cadres of the banned Garo National Liberation Army, GNLA yesterday surrendered before the police in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district. District Superintendent of Police Mukesh Singh said, they also handed over arms and ammunition including an AK-56 along with two magazines, 82 live AK rounds, two 7.56 pistol with 2 magazines, 12 rounds of 7.65 pistol ammunition and one grenade.
All of the surrendered cadres were recruited by the outfit between the years 2010-11 with most of them having received training in the Durama Hill Range. A rehabilitation package will be worked out for them to lead a normal life.
