In Assam, five Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger (KPLT) militants have been gunned down by security forces during an encounter at Borpung-Tarapung area under Borpathar Police Station in Karbi Anglong hill district this afternoon. The deceased militants included its self-styled general secretary-cum-publicity secretary Nilip Ingti.Security forces also destroyed a camp of the militants in the jungle of the area. An AK-47 rifle and a pistol have been recovered from the encounter spot. Our Correspondent reports that the encounter took place when the CRPF Cobra and Assam Police Action Force acting on a tip off launched a joint operation in the area. The Superintendent of Police and other top district authorities have rushed to the encounter spot to take stock of the situation.
