In the Philippines, five people were killed and five others injured as Typhoon Muifa battered several parts of northern and central areas of the country. The National Disasters Management Council on Wednesday said Muifa brought heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday caused a landslide in Bohol province, killing two children. Two fishermen in Bulacan province died when their boat capsized, while a woman drowned in a creek in Metro Manila. The Council said Muifa displaced 14,704 families in northern Philippines. Several schools also suspended classes following massive flooding. Muifa, packing maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour, was spotted 980 kilometers northeast of Basco this afternoon. It is forecast to exit the Philippines on Friday afternoon, but monsoon rains will continue to pour over northern Philippines and may trigger landslides and flashfloods.
