5 killed, 20 injured as Doon Express derails in UP

In UP, at least five people killed and more than 20 other got injured as five bogies of Hawrah-Dehradun Express train derailed near Mehrawan station in Jaunpur district today. Ten seriously injured people have been admitted to Jaunpur district hospital.

Our Gorakhpur correspondent quoting district administration reports that rescue and relief work is going on in full swing. Relief trains have been rushed to the spot from Varanasi, Lucknow and Faizabad. The rail traffic has been disrupted on Jaunpur-Shahganj rail section of Northern Railway.

Senior railway officials have also rushed to the spot. The prima facie cause of the accident is said to be the expansion of rail tracks due to high atmospheric temperature.

The Railway has released telephone helpline numbers to provide information regarding the rail accident near Mehrawan in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The help line number at Varanasi railway station is 0542-2504658, Gaya – 0631-2223320, Mughalsarai-05412-254145, Dehradoon – 0135-2624002 and 2624003.

The number of Lucknow Railway Control Room is 0522-2234533. As reported earlier 5 bogies of 13009 UP Howrah-Dehradoon Express Train today derailed near Mehrawan railway station.
