In a consumer friendly initiative, Petroleum Ministry has decided to make available LPG Cylinder of 5 Kilogram at select petrol pumps in metro cities from Saturday. The cylinders will be sold at market price. The scheme will be run on pilot basis, will cover Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore. The move will be a boon to migratory population including students, as it will enable them the flexibility to pick up cylinders and obtain subsequent refills at time of their choice.

In another initiative, a consumer can now opt for the distributor of his choice within a cluster of LPG distributors in the vicinity and across the oil companies. The portability scheme will be initially available in 30 cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Patna.

An official release said, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dr Veerappa Moily will launch both these schemes on 5th of this month in Bangaluru.
