5 Indian fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan Navy

Sri Lankan Navy today arrested 5 Indian fishermen on charges of poaching in Sri Lankan waters near Delfts island.<br/><br/>Spokesman of Sri Lanka Navy Captain Akram Alavi said, the fishermen and one trawler have been taken to Jaffna coast and handed over to the officials of the Fisheries Department. <br/><br/>They will be produced before the local magistrate tomorrow for further legal action.<br/><br/>Before these latest arrests, there were 29 Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan custody.<br/><br/>

5 Indian fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan Navy

Sri Lankan Navy arrested five Indian fishermen and detained their fishing boat last night. The fishermen hailing from Tamil Nadu were fishing near Delfts island. <br/><br/>Sri Lankan Navy arrested five fishermen from Delfts island as they crossed the international maritime boundary line. The Lankan Navy also detained one fishing boat and took them to Kankesanthurai. Sri Lanka normally releases apprehended fishermen as goodwill gesture but fishing boats are detained. Local fishermen are urging the government to secure the immediate release of fellow fishermen and 94 detained fishing boats. K Devi Padmanabhan, AIR News, Tiruchirapalli.
