5 five militants,1 policeman killed during raid on militant hideout in Russia

Russian authorities say at least five militants and one policeman were killed during a raid on a suspected militant hideout in Russia's northern Caucasus region. Today's clash took place near the Stavropol region's border with Karachayevo-Cherkessiya. At least two other officers were wounded in fighting in the region, which has been less prone to separatist violence than other Caucasus areas. The clash occurred a day after a pair of suicide bombings in Dagestan killed two policemen and wounded at least 26 others. Police said the first attacker detonated explosives yesterday while attempting to enter a police station in a village south of the provincial capital, Makhachkala. The second attack came hours later, as a suicide bomber detonated a car packed with explosives outside a police checkpoint in the same village. Dagestan, a Russian republic bordering Chechnya, has been the scene of frequent attacks by insurgents targeting government officials.
