5 crore accounts opened under Jan Dhan scheme, says Financial Services Secy. <br/>

Financial Services Secretary GS Sandhu today said that banks have opened around five crore accounts under the Jan Dhan scheme till September 25 and collected over 3,500 crore rupees in deposits.Addressing the annual meeting of the Indo-American Chamber in Mumbai today Mr. Sandhu said that all these accounts will be seeded to the Aadhar number and will have biometrics to avoid the duplication. He informed that the average deposit per account through this scheme is 800 to 900 rupees.The Jan Dhan scheme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day address and was formally launched on August 28.
