4th round of Pulse polio immunization programme begins in Delhi today

The fourth round of this year's pulse polio immunization programme began Sunday morning in the national capital.
Under the drive, children up to 5 years will be administered anti polio drops.
AIR Correspondent reports, to make the pulse polio campaign successful the government has set up around 8,000 booths at various places including railway stations, metro stations, bus terminals and Children parks in the city.

According to the official sources around 30,000 health workers have been deployed at these booths to administer polio drops to the children.

Besides, this health workers will also reach door to door for the next five days to offer drops to those children who have been left out during the drive.
According to the official data Delhi government is able to immunize around 23 to 25 lakhs children in each phase of the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme.

Delhi was the first state to initiate pulse polio programme in 1994. It was later adopted by the union government and other states.

On 27th March of this year India has been declared polio free along with countries of South East Asian Region.

But there are major threats in the complete eradication of polio virus, because the neighboring countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria has had a major outbreak of Wild Polio Virus in the recent past.
