The 4th International Congress on sickle cell disease was inaugurated in Raipur in Chhattisgarh on Monday. Sickle cell disease is a kind of anemia which is passed from one generation to another generation.The 5 days conference was inaugurated by the former President of India Mr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam. The meet is being attended by about 400 scientists and specialists from around the world which includes Dr. Graham Sergent, who has devoted his life for the study of sickle cell diseases.It may be mentioned here that Chhattisgarh has about 10 per cent of its population affected by this dreaded disease.
