In Iraq, the death toll in a series of car bomb and suicide blasts in Iraq has gone up to 49 while 119 people have been wounded. Iraqi capital Baghdad was rocked by suicide and car bomb blasts in which 37 persons were killed.
The spokesperson of Iraqi Ministry of Interior, Saad Maan has confirmed 20 casualties so far. One of the suicide bombers blew himself and his car outside a restaurant close to a checkpoint near the heavily fortified green zone.
11 persons including the security personnel were killed here. This is the area where Iraqi ministers live and the parliament and the western embassies including the US Embassy are located.
Two car bomb blasts took place opposite to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building killing eleven persons.
Another explosion took place near Khullani Square in central Baghdad killing four people. In Diyala 11 persons were killed in another suicide car bomb explosion. In a car bomb blast in the Sinak commercial district on the eastern bank of the Tigris river, five persons were killed.
The incidents have cast a shadow over the fragile security situation in Iraq. According to official estimates more than 1000 people were killed in the fresh surge of violence last month which is among the highest tolls since 2008.
