In Assam, normal life has been paralyzed in several districts following a 48 hour state-wide bandh call by United Democratic People’s Front, UDPF, from Wednesday morning. The bandh call has been given to pressurize the Government in favour of its demand for the creation of ‘Bodoland’ state and starting peace dialogue with the banned outfit – National Democratic Front of Bodoland, NDFB with immediate effect. AIR Guwahati Correspondent reports that the bandh evokes full response in four Bodoland Territorial Council, BTC districts of Kokrajhar, Udalguri, Baksa and Chirang while it receives mixed response in Sonitpur, Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Nalbari districts in Lower Assam. Vehicles are off the roads, including the National Highways 31 and 52. Shops, business establishments and educational institutions are closed due to the bandh. Banking services and functioning of offices are affected badly in the bandh-hit areas. Train services are, however, being maintained in these areas as per schedule with proper security cover.
