47-Day fishing ban on east coast of India

A 47-day ban on fishing came into effect from Saturday night along the east coast of the country. It was imposed by the Government of India in an effort to conserve fish in their breeding season. AIR Visakhapatnam correspondent says that no boat or trawler would venture into the sea till mid-night of June 1. Almost all 600 mechanised boats at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh were anchored in the fishing harbour. State as well as federal authorities will be strictly monitoring the ban along the entire east coast.
