46 killed in UP road mishap

In Uttar Pradesh, 46 persons including 30 women and children were killed and 15 others injured in a road accident in Ballia district on Monday. The mishap occurred when a tractor-trolley carrying them overturned and fell into water logged deep roadside ditch at Malipur village under Nagra police station. District police chief Ram Swaroop told AIR Lucknow correspondent that most of the victims were drowned. They were on their way to a local temple. Most of the victims belong to Usmanpur village under Ubhaon police station of the district. Governor BL Joshi and Chief Minister Mayawati have expressed their grief sorrow over the accident and loss of life. District Magistrate Madhukar Dwivedi has announced one lakh rupees exgratia for each family of the deceased and fifty thousand rupees for the seriously injured. Twenty five thousand rupees will be given to those, who suffered minor injuries.
