The special Air India plane carrying 46 Indian Nurses released from ISIS captivity in Iraq will arrive at Kochi airport in Kerala around 12 noon today.
India's Special Envoy and former Ambassador to Iraq, Suresh Reddy told AIR that the plane would reach Kochi via Mumbai. It was earlier scheduled to reach in Kochi at around 7 AM in the morning.
70 other Indian workers from Kirkuk and Erbil are also being brought back by the same flight. The officials of External Affairs Ministry and Kerala government are accompanying them.
46 Indian Nurses were released by their captors Friday and were brought to Erbil from Mosul.
They were handed over to Indian Embassy officials stationed in Erbil by the Kurdish authorities. Throughout the developments, Indian Embassy officials in Baghdad had been in constant touch with the Nurses, the local intermediaries and the interlocutors to ensure their safe release and exit.
AIR West Asia correspondent reported that all arrangements have been made at the Kochi Airport to receive the Nurses and others arriving from Iraq. Four special counters have been opened at the airport to facilitate quick immigration and customs clearance.
Meanwhile, 39 Indian construction workers kidnapped two weeks ago are still in captivity in Mosul, and remain unharmed. However, there are difficulties in establishing contact with them. Efforts are on to bring back Indian nationals who have expressed their desire to leave Iraq.
