45 percent vote cast so far in final phase of UP Panchayat elections

In Uttar Pradesh, more than 45 percent votes have been cast so far for 4th and last phase of three-tier Panchayat elections. Polling is on amidst tight security in 186 development blocks spread over 69 districts. The voting will continue till 5 Monday evening.Deputy Election Commissioner of State Election Commission SK Dubey told AIR Lucknow correspondent Monday after noon that no untoward incident is reported from any part of the state.Elaborate security arrangements are in place for free and fair poll. One hundred and forty four companies of PAC along with policemen and home guards are deployed to maintain law and order during the elections. 19 districts have been identified as sensitive extra precautions have been taken there. Reserve forces have been provided at Ballia, Mainpuri, Aurriya, Etawah and Kannauj districts.The commission has deployed 69 observers' more than 400 zonal magistrates and about 2500 sector magistrates to keep eyes on poll process. As per reports available at some place voting was started little late due non availability of ballot papers. At number of places people were seen making protest as their names were missing from voters lists.All the districts have been asked to carry out massive videography of the election process. Movement of all Ministers, MPs, legislators and other political persons in the election areas is banned.A total of 3 lakh 8 thousand 2 candidates including 1lakh 23 thousand 308 women are in fray in this phase for Gram, Kshetra and Zila Panchayats posts.Meanwhile the State Election Commission has decided the counting votes for all four posts will now be held on same day in two phases on 28th and 30th of this month.Panchayat elections in two districts of Etah and Kanshiram Nagar would, however, be held on November 2 and 9.
