In West Bengal, 44 people were today convicted of killing 11 Trinamool supporters who were landless farmers at Suchpur village in Birbhum district in July 2000. The additional districts and session judge Mr. Bishanath Konar convicted 44 people, while 23 others were acquitted. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced tomorrow. According to the prosecution, the victims were hacked and beaten to death.Hailing the conviction, the Trinamool Congress Chief Miss Mamata Banerjee said that this would serve as a lesson to the CPIM to desist such political killing.
