The 43rd edition of the International Film Festival of India began at Panaji in Goa this evening. Noted cine-actor Akshay Kumar inaugurated the 10-day cinematic extravaganza by lighting a traditional lamp in the distinguished presence of Goa Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar, Union minister for Information & Broadcasting Mr. Manish Tiwari, Goa Governor Mr. Bahrat Vir Vanchoo and I&B secretary Mr. Uday Kumar Verma.
Inaugurating the 10-day festival, Mr. Akshay Kumar said 10 years of Indian cinema is an incredible landmark for all of us. Cinema, he said is devotion, excitement, success and family time. The cine star said he owes his entire life of happiness to the world cinema.
Union minister for Information & Broadcasting Mr. Manish Tiwari said his ministry will embark on an ambitious mission-the National Heritage Mission for co-production of films with various countries in the 12th five-year plan.
Goa Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar in his address said he will strive to take the IFFI to international standards, the journey, which he said he had started 8 years back in Goa.
Renowned Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi was conferred the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award during the opening ceremony at the hands of Union Minister Mr. Manish Tiwari.
