433 LMT of wheat procured during Rabi marketing Season 2021-22

A record over 433 Lakh Metric Tonne (LMT) wheat procurement has been done during this Rabi market Season 2021-22, surpassing over 389 LMT of the previous season. Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir have recorded their best ever procurement.

This procurement has benefited over 49 lakh farmers in this session as compared to over 43 lakh farmers in the last  Rabi Market Season.   Briefing media, Food and Public Distribution Secretary, Sudhanshu Pandey said, over 84 thousand 369 core rupees have been paid to farmers through these procurements.
 
In the Kharif Marketing Season 2020-21, the Center has procured a record over 862 LMT paddy which has surpassed over 770 LMT of last year.

The Union Government has said that a total of 198.78 lakh Metric Tonnes of foodgrains has been allocated to the States and Union Territories  for five months from July to November this year under Fourth Phase of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY).
 
Addressing media in New Delhi, Food and Public Distribution Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said that lifting of foodgrains has been started in 16 States and UTs from Food Corporation of India and Central pool and so far four lakh Metric Tonnes foodgrains have been lifted by States. He also informed that distribution of Phase-IV foodgrains has been commenced in seven States and UTs and about 14 thousand 700 Metric Tonnes  foodgrains have been distributed so far.
 
He said, the Centre is daily monitoring and reviewing the lifting and distribution of PMGKAY foodgrains. During the conference, it was informed that awareness and outreach initiatives have been undertaken to sensitise  beneficiaries about entitlement of free foodgrain under PMGKAY, over and above regular National Food Security Act foodgrains.
 
While briefing about the 'One Nation, One Ration Card' scheme, Mr Pandey informed that this scheme is now fully enabled in 32 States and UTs and remaining states are expected to enable ONORC in near future. He informed that an average 1.5 crore monthly portability transactions are being recorded under ONORC.
 
In reply to media query about deletion of bogus ration cards, Mr Pandey said that the deletion and addition of Ration cards are States abd UTs prerogative and many States and UTs are doing good work by weeding out the bogus ration cards holder from the list of NFSA beneficiaries.
 
He said, this will ensure that entitled beneficiaries get the benefit of the food grains schemes. He further added that Department will very soon finalize a modal guideline based on suggestions received from States  for common list of factors for inclusion and exclusion of Ration Card beneficiaries after due deliberation with States and other Ministries and concerned Departments.
