42nd International Film Festival of India begins in Goa today

The stage has been set to inaugurate the 42nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) at Ravindra Bhavan auditorium in Margaon, Goa, today evening.

The much acclaimed cine star, Shahrukh Khan will inaugurate the festival with much fan fare.

Goa civil and police administration has left no stone unturned in making this festival a success.

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ambika Soni will present the Lifetime Achievement Award to the eminent French Film maker, Bertrand Tavernier.

The award carries an amount of Rs. 10 lakh, a scroll and a certificate. The award has been revived after a decade.

Homage will be paid to some stalwarts of the film industry as a whole. Legendry singers Bhupen Hazarika and Jagjit Singh will also be remembered on this occasion.

Portuguese film, The Consul of Bordeaux, will be showcased as the opening movie of the event.

The Indian panorama section will kick off with screening of the Malayalam film Urumi. More than 100 movies from 65 countries will be screened during the festival.

Works of the two legendary directors including French director Luc Besson and Australian film director Phillip Noyce will also be showcased during this 10-day global cultural fiesta.

Having an inherent theme of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ meaning The Whole World is One Family, this 42nd edition is billed as ‘Festival of Change’.
