In Nagaland, heavy polling is reported from most of the polling stations across the state to elect 59 members of the 60-member state assembly today. According to State Election Department reports, 42 per cent of voters have already registered their ballots by 12 noon with no major untoward incident reported from any part of the state so far. Polling will end at four this afternoon.
Reports are being received from all the districts of peaceful polling so far. Even in the state capital Kohima, although in a gradual manner, voters are coming out in large number to cast their votes. Almost all the shops and establishments remained closed and cities look deserted as all citizens are holed up in their respective poll locations.
Barring a few minor scuffles between the party supporters in Wokha and Dimapur districts, polling is by and large peaceful in the entire State. A total of about 11.93 lakh electorate are exercising their franchise to decide the fate of 185 candidates in the fray. An impressive 16 thousand new voters will also be exercising their franchise for the first time today.
