In Indonesia, at least 41 people have been killed and 382 others missing as a strong earthquake on Monday triggered tsunami in remote district of West Sumatra. Local media said that the search and rescue team is focusing on searching the missing people. However, high tides have hindered the rescue work, preventing the rescuers from reaching the stricken area. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono to take steps to address the tsunami impacts. The President has also declared an emergency response, which will be effective in the next 14 days. The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said that small tsunamis occurred five minutes after the 7.2 magnitude quake struck at 9:42 p.m. local time yesterday. The epicenter of the quake was located at 78 kilometres southwest Pagai Selatan Mentawai and at a depth of 10 kilometres under sea bed.In Yogyakarta province, over 1300 people have taken refuge in emergency shelters following the eruption of Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta province.
