40 percent militants active in J&K are foreigners, says Police Chief Khoda

Jammu and Kashmir Police chief says about 500 militants are active in the state and 40 percent among them are foreigners. <br/><br/>Talking to AIR News Mr. Kuldeep Khoda said in New Delhi that Hizbul Mujahideen and the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the two terror outfits with their bases in Pakistan are active in the state. <br/><br/>Mr. Khoda however, maintained that there was no let-up in incursion attempts by militants from across the border with security forces. He added that infiltration is going on and Pakistan continued to support militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir. <br/><br/>This police chief said amply demonstrates that Pakistan was not adhering to its commitment of not allowing its soil to be used for anti-India activities.<br/><br/>He said the overall security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir was improving and there was a drop in violence in the last three years. He added that there was a 20 percent drop in violence in 2007 which improved to 30 percent in 2009. <br/><br/>According to official data, around 500 terror incidents were reported in 2009 in which 239 militants, 71 civilians and 79 security personnel were killed. Mr. Khoda noted that security forces have been able to curb militant incursions mainly due to better border management.<br/>
