In Uttarakhand, four more people were killed in rain related incidents, whereas a total of about eighty persons have died following the heavy rains and landslides during the past few days. Meanwhile, district authorities with the help of defence personnel, ITBP & NDRF are busy in relief work in the state. Met department has predicted light to moderate rain may occur at few places in coming 24 hours. More from our correspondent. AIR correspondent reports, Uttarakhand is passing through a disastrous period right now. Owing to the Gangotri, Yamunotri and Badrinath highways being blocked following the landslides, a severe shortage of essential commodities including domestic gas and kerosene oil reported in Bordering districts of Uttarkashi and Chamoli. According to reports a large number of pilgrims and tourists from Gujrat, Rajasthan, Tamilnadu, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal are stranded at various places. However, weather is clear at most of the places today. The personnel of BRO and PWD are engaged to clear and repair the roads. Meanwhile, food packets are being air-dropped by the choppers for stranded people. Where as Air Force helicopters are engaged in supply of essential commodities in remote areas. However, the financial assistance for five hundred crore Rupees by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has been hailed by the state government. This assistance has to come as a big relief for the state.Meanwhile, vehicular traffic has resumed on Haldwani-Almora, Dehradun-New Tehri and few other roads in the state today. However, many other highways are still blocked following the landslides and heavy rains which occurred in last week. According to officials repair work of the roads is going on, on a war footing and the weather is clear in most places of the state today. Meanwhile, relief work is in full swing with the help of ITBP, NDRF and army. A large number of pilgrims and tourists are still stranded seventh consecutive day today. According to reports, food packets were dropped today by Choppers for stranded people. Apart from this, vegetable and other essentials items were also supplied to Chamoli and Almora by the helicopters of Indian Air force.
