4 more die of Japanese encephalitis, toll reaches 235?

Four more persons succumbed to Japanese encephalitis in Gorakhpur and Basti divisions of Uttar Pradesh during last 24 hours, taking the toll to 235. Quoting official sources AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the 37 fresh cases suffering from encephalitis were admitted for treatment at BRD Medical College Hospital Gorakhpur. A total of 264 patients were being treated in various government hospitals in different districts of eastern region of the state. State government had suspended special vaccination drive against Japanese Encephalitis in four severely hit districts including Gorakhpur, Deoria, Kushinagar and Maharajganj in the month of June this year in the name of unusable quality of vaccines received from central government. The health department had identified 3 to 5 primary and community health centres in each district for the purpose.
