4 lakh 65 thousand toilets built in urban areas under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Four lakh sixty five thousand toilets have been built in the urban areas under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan since the inception of the scheme last year. The target is to construct 25 lakh household toilets in urban areas till March 2016. 16.45 lakh toilets are under construction. <br/><br/>Describing Swachh Bharat Mission as the mother of all missions, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said in New Delhi, states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Bihar are yet to pick up the momentum in toilet construction. Chandigarh leads the list with 100% performance in solid waste management. The Union Territory is being followed by Meghalaya, Delhi, Kerala and Manipur. <br/><br/>Elaborating on the features and objectives of the Mission, Mr Naidu said the initiative is aimed at creating demand for sanitary services and infrastructure. A clean India is the most profound statement that the country can make to the world which is keenly watching it.
