4 killed in blast at Awami National Party meeting in Pak

In Pakistan at least four persons were killed and over a dozen injured in a blast at the Awami National Party meeting at Timergara. The blast occurred at a rest house in the market of Timergara, the headquarters of Lower Dir district, where the ANP had organised a gathering to celebrate the government's decision to rename the North West Frontier Province as Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. The nature of the blast could not immediately be ascertained though TV news channels reported it could have been a suicide attack. Several government offices are located near the rest house where the blast occurred.Security forces cordoned off the area as rescue workers ferried bodies and the injured to a nearby hospital. The Maidan area near Timergara was a key stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban till the army launched a major offensive last year to evict militants from Buner, Dir and Swat regions of the NWFP.
