In Afghanistan, at least four people were killed and 24 others wounded in twin Taliban attacks in the western city of Herat on Monday. One of the attacks targeted an Italian-led NATO provincial reconstruction team (PRT) and some of Italian soldiers are reportedly injured. Herat provincial health director Ghulam Sayed Rashid said three of the injured are in critical condition. The attack was claimed by the Taliban. The area around the PRT, which is in a residential part of the city, had been cordoned off and both Afghan and international security forces were in the area.Herat, close to the Afghan border with Iran, is seen as one of the safest parts of Afghanistan and is among the seven places due to pass from foreign to Afghan security control from July.
