The Queen's baton for Common wealth Games reached Chennai this evening to a colourful ceremony. Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin received the baton from , the Chairman of the Tamilnadu Olympic Association Sivanthi Adityan. A galaxy of sportspersons were present.<br/><br/>Earlier, the Queen's baton which was brought by Raj Kadaiyan from Port Blair was handed over to Adityan. Eminent sports persons and other popular personalities along with school children took part in the relay.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent reports that The island grounds in which the Queen's Baton relay was held reverberated with the world cup football hits like waka waka and waving flag. School children gave a colourful presentation of cultural folk dances. It was a sensational moment for the children as the Queen's baton was handed over to World Chess Champion Vishwanathan Anand and Olympic Athlete Jayalakhsmi.<br/><br/>The relay later began with eminent sportspersons like tennis star Ramesh Krishnan, Padmashri. V.Baskaran,Squahs Champion Jyotsna Chinnappa,Swimming Champion Sebastian Xavier, Athlete Wilson Cherian and many others. After a 4 and a half km relay, the baton reached the popular Nehru Indoor Stadium. In TamilNadu, the relay will be passing through Chennai, Thanjavur, Rameswaram,Madurai, Kanyakumari and Ooty for ten days before moving to Mysore.
