The second day's play in the second cricket Test between India and South Africa in Bengaluru was called off without a ball being bowled as there was a steady downpour throughout the day. The grounds staff had to bring the covers back and when the rain did not stop till 12:30, the writing was on the wall and calling off the day's play was the only option left for the on-field umpires Ian Gould and Richard Kettleborough. There is forecast for heavy rain tomorrow also which will slowly decrease the chances of having a result oriented match.

On the first day, South Africa were bowled out in their first innings for 214 in 59 overs with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja grabbing four wickets apiece. AB de Villiers top-scored 85 for South Africa. In reply, India progressed steadily to reach 80 for no loss at close of play, with Shikhar Dhawan stroking his way to 45 while Murali Vijay was unbeaten on 28.
